    NGC graded AU55
    NGC/PCGS graded population 196
    Mintage 15,200
Per Garrett & Guth's "Encyclopedia of U.S. Gold Coins 1795-1933", pg 81, "The mintage for the 1859-S quarter eagle drops considerably from the two previous San Francisco Mint issues... This issue was well circulated and heavily worn coins are normally encountered. The 1859-S quarter eagle was struck with the old-style reverse hub that features large letters and heavier arrows. The mint mark is also found partially filled on many examples"
Per Breen's "Complete Encyclopedia Of U.S. and Colonial Coins", pg 499, Breen 6248 "S normal or partially filled. Often weakly struck. Ex rare above EF."
