    Description

    Up for auction is a
Pottery Jug Pitcher 6" Tall possibly (according to the note that came with it:) from the Cliff Dwellers at Manitou Colorado. I bought this about 10 years ago from a local estate sale of a very eclectic collector. Inside the neck of the jug is a note printed in ink on the back of a cash register receipt from 3-10-1979: "Cliff Dwellers Manitou Colorado." That's not much of a provenance, but that's all I have. See photo #3. When tapped, it gives off a low tone. I understand that this is a way to help determine if pottery was fired in a primitive, low heat kiln verses a modern, high heat kiln. It weighs .63 lb., is 6" tall, the bottom diameter is 1 3/4" and the hip diameter is 3 3/8". There are 6 indentations around the hip. If anyone has some knowledge about this piece, and if my description is accurate or not, I would appreciate the help.
