Beautiful Ancient Anasazi Native American Bowl
This bowl came out of a New Mexican Native American Collection. The estimated age of this creation is 1150 to 1400 AD. It was created for self-use, not for trading, possibly an ancient seed pot, because the top opening is only an inch across. Seed pots had small openings, so that animals could not get inside and eat the next year's crop seeds.
THIS POT HAS NOT BEEN RESTORED. IT WAS FOUND IN WHAT IS CONSIDERED TO BE MINT CONDITION FOR AN 800 YEAR OLD POT. It is believed to be Anasazi Native American. However, historical records were obviously not kept at the time.
The bowl has not been repaired and is not cracked. There is still some soil on the pot that could be removed by a professional restorer, if you choose. I feel the soil adds to the provenance of this piece. So, I will not touch it. And due to the age of the pot, there is no signature on the bottom. This is an antiquity. You must logically expect wear and age defects. This enhances the value of the piece. Contact me for more information.
This piece is 4 ½“ wide and 3” tall. Beautiful shape and unusual design. The bowl base is in excellent condition with no crack or chips. The rim has a few chips, as would be expected for this age of pottery.
The pot was legally obtained from an estate collection outside Santa Fe, New Mexico. The collector lived here for most of his life, but he is no longer with us. So, no additional information is available. The pot is a wonderful, very rare find.
This pot would sell for 2-3 times this price if you found it at a trading post or store in Albuquerque or Santa Fe. This price is very fair and accurate.
