    This is a United States Army Air Corps Air Medal/Bomber Wings group.  The group includes an Air Medal, which has the original slot type brooch and original ribbon drape.  The planchet is in very good condition and is officially engraved on the reverse "William J. Merten Jr."  The medal comes with pin-back ribbon bar, lapel pin and its named (AIR MEDAL) black, gold colored scrolled, issued presentation case;  includes a American Defense Service medal, with the original slot brooch and original ribbon drape.  The planchet is in very good condition and includes a pin-back ribbon bar and lapel pin;  includes a Army Good Conduct medal, with original slot brooch and original ribbon drape.  The planchet is in very good condition, but is not named on the reverse.  It comes with a flat ribbon bar and a lapel pin;  includes an European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign medal, which has the original crimp brooch and original ribbon drape, with 4 bronze campaign service stars affixed.  The planchet is in good condition and includes a pin-back ribbon bar with 4 bronze campaign service stars attached; includes American Campaign medal, with original crimp brooch and original ribbon drape.  The planchet is in very good condition and includes a pin-back ribbon bar;  includes a WWII Victory medal which has the original crimp brooch and original ribbon drape.  The planchet is in very good condition and it includes a pin-back ribbon bar;  includes a 9th Air Corps Shoulder patch that is in excellent condition;  includes a Bomber Wings pin-back badge.  The badge is hallmarked "STERLING" on the reverse and is privately engraved "W. MERTEN";  includes 9th Air Corps sweetheart pin; includes a stand up, desk top 8X5 inch professional photo of Merten  This group also includes an awards letter for the Air Medal and his original Air Medal awarded Air Force certificate.

    William J. Merten Jr
    .  Mr. Merten was born in Louisville, Kentucky on May 10, 1918.  He registered for the draft in April of 1942, but then enlisted on May 15, 1942.  He was honorably discharged in August of 1945.  He died on April 14, 1992, at Fort Lauderdale, FL.
